The Tour de France (or affectionately known to the French as la Grande Boucle) is getting closer and I’ll be getting in the spirit this Sunday, 14th of June, with ‘Les 24h Vélib. To celebrate 8 years of the Vélib bike service, the Champs-Elysėes will be closed to traffic from 8h–20h so you can put your energy into riding along one of the most beautiful avenues in the world! Each tour you make, money will be donated to WWF, GoodPlanet, and Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque. For example: you ride the Champs-Elysėes 2 times and 1€ will be donated.
400 Vélib bikes will be available plus small versions for kids aged 2-8. Food trucks will be parked for some feed plus a Pétanque competition from 10h-12h. This great initiative is organised by Vélib and the Mairie de Paris.
No inscription required, more information here
We each have a velib subscription (19€ for one year, it’s nothing) and use it to get from a to b. If you head to la Maison Vélib Exki (organic lunches etc) you can see our Sound of Music inspired photo on the wall!
On the subject of the Tour de France, one of my favourite movies is La Grande Boucle starring Clovis Cornillac. It’s a feel good movie that makes me excited for tour time. I couldn’t find the preview but here it is in French.
